Web applications are basically computer programs that are deployed on a single Internet based server rather than on a traditional Client-Server basis, these are often referred to as 'Thin Client' applications.
The great advantage of a web application is that the only copy of the program that needs updating is the one on the Server, the Client machines simply connect to the Server via the Internet and recieve the latest revision, so there's no need to distribute CD's to update individual client machines.
At Stylusnet we've developed many web applications, often for existing Clients as extensions of thier web sites, but just as often as new systems to help deliver new or value added services to our Clients customers.
The web applications we've developed include ticketing systems, back end administration systems for recruitment and trainng Companies, stock management and order progress systems, inter brach systems for the automotive industry and on-line training systems for FSA compliance.
A great example of a web application is the recent concept system developed for the NCRI Onix project which we hope will eventually enable researchers from many different fields to share thier results.
| ONIX may eventually provide the ability for researchers to share thier results with others in thier field and provide a great 'Research by Discovery' resource. |
